“After Installing Solar, My Electricity Bill Went Down from Rs. 2000 to Rs. 0,” Says Kerala Man

This is a story about a man living in Kerala who decided to go solar. His house now runs on 3KVA Grid-Tie inverter and he can’t be happier. Here is everything you need to know about this solar journey –

Why an On-Grid System Over an Off-Grid Solar System?

Mr. Vijayaraghavan lives in Thripunithura city in the state of Kerala. He lives in an area where sufficient power supply is available but the rates of electricity in that area are very high. He paid INR 3000 to 5000 every two months as his electricity bill and he wanted to completely get rid of it.

Vijayaraghavan then spoke to his neighbour, a close friend of his and discussed his problem. His neighbour had recently installed a su-kam solar system and asked Vijayaraghavan to contact Mr. James–Su-Kam’s authorized distributor in Kerala.

Vijayaraghavan then approached Mr. James and after a detailed discussion, James advised him to install Su-Kam’s grid-tie inverter in his home. Grid-tie inverter would not only reduce his monthly electricity bill by running his home load on solar but would also help him earn money by selling the excess solar power produced by solar panels back to the grid.

Why Grid-Tie Inverter?

Grid-tie inverters are an on-grid rooftop solar solution that can run the load completely on solar and also sell excess solar power back to the company by feeding the power to the grid. Units Generated and Load Running

The system is expected to generate approximately 15 units of electricity on a daily basis depending on weather conditions. The installation was a success. The system is now running on solar and provides electricity in this house at all times.

Their monthly electricity bill was approximately INR 3000 for every month.

Earlier this home used 12 to 13 units of electricity on a daily basis from the mains supply. About 2000W of load is running on this solar system from the house. And since solar is generating about 15 units everyday their consumption from mains has reduced substantially.

The net metering and subsidy given by the government makes solar power a very cost effective and affordable solution for one and all.

Mr. James says, ‘We have installed a 3KVA grid tie inverter in Mr. Vijayaraghavan’s home about a month back according to their load requirements. Their home has a water motor, a refrigerator, 5 fans, 3 tubelights, and one TV and one computer. This solar system generates approximately 15 units of electricity per day since the installation. The solar panels installed in their home have exported more electricity unit to the electricity board than they have imported. So their bill is expected to be zero.’
