Kerala can clearly bag the tittle of ‘Most Progressive State in India’. Not only the state tops in literacy rates, but it is now set to top the ‘solar’ charts as well. Many homes and commercial establishments are going solar.
Here’s the story of an engineering college located in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala that now runs on 135 kw solar power setting the right example for our youth.
THEY CALL THEMSELVES ‘THE SOLARED ENGINEERING SCHOOL’
A college that decided to lend a hand towards making this planet green again by going full solar- that is truly inspiring. Established in 1939, College of engineering Trivandrum commonly called CET is located in Thiruvananthapuram and is headed by Vrinda Nair, Principal CET.
It was a joint management decision where in it was decided that the massive amount of load that runs in the college should be run through solar power. Previously the college utilized grid supply to run their load that incurred heavy monthly charges.
The only way to reduce the unnecessary expenditure was to ‘solarize’ the entire college. Su-Kam power systems limited feels proud to receive the order for this massive installation. The installation was handled by our expert team headed by Mr. Daniel (Deputy Manager Solar projects, Su-Kam).
GOING SOLAR WITH SU-KAM
Mr. Daniel works hard to ensure Su-Kam’s solar projects are completed with perfection on time. According to their requirements he made sure the following system was installed in the college –
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
- Solar panels– 135KW (250W/24V)
- Grid tie inverter– 135 KW [50KW (2 in number), 20KW (1 in number), 15KW (1 in number)]
LOAD RUNNING AND UNITS GENERATED
The system is expected to generate approximately 675 units of electricity every day according to the weather conditions and will be able to run the entire load of the college. Mr. Daniel says ‘It is a privilege to be a part of inspirational initiatives taken up by colleges. The college is spread over a massive area of 99.99 acres. The grid tie will function as per their requirement- running the load on solar at night and feeding the excess solar power generated back to the grid. The installation was a massive success’.
We at Su-Kam feel proud to see colleges in India taking up such inspirational initiatives and driving the nation to become a better place to live in. We wish College of Engineering Trivandrum all the best for their future endeavors with solar!
