In Sainpal village, life comes to a halt after dark. Located in Haryana’s bustling Sirsa district, this village barely gets 10 to 12 hours of power at night. But for 27-year-old agriculturist Ranjhod Singh, till earlier this year, even those measly hours of electricity were not available.
His residence, located a little away from the main village, near his 100-acre farmland, received merely six hours of erratic power supply at night. This well-to-do family of six – Singh, his wife, two children and elderly parents – managed its chores with the help of a genset. But the fumes and the high cost continued to irk them till Su-Kam came to their rescue with a simple, energy-efficient solar-powered system.
Singh approached Mr. Lalit Goyal of Su-Kam after observing the efficacy of a similar system installed at a petrol pump in the area. According to Mr. Goyal, the family is extremely happy with the capabilities of the system, which was installed in their home on June 1 this year. The system allows air-conditioners, fans, lights and fridge to run smoothly.

Backup: According to Mr. Goyal, the family’s daytime needs are met by the power harnessed by the solar panels. The battery also keeps getting charged alongside, thereby offering a backup of six to eight hours.
Cost of installation: The system turned out to be extremely economical for Singh as he had to pay Rs. 3,85,000 for the equipment and the installation.
Going that extra mile
Singh is not only pleased with the system but also with the sound advice that Mr. Goyal offered. He suggested opting for inverter air-conditioners and fridge instead of the regular ones to get good backup and also to save energy. While the inverter has a starting load of 1500 W and a running load of 350 W, the inverter fridge has a starting load of 450 W.
Not only are the Singhs now consuming clean energy but are also saving money as well. The night is no longer synonymous with stress, darkness and frustration but holds the promise of brightness and luminosity that the whole family can bask in together.
