Yemen is an Arab country located in the Western Asia that has been facing a devastating civil war since 2015. The war resulted in the loss of lives, property and basic infrastructure. Yemen and its citizens have been living in the dark since over a year now. There is no electricity available even in the most populated cities of the country. The war created a massive breakdown in the day to day functioning of the country.
Su-Kam decided to spread the knowledge of solar power and established its service centers and authorised outlets in Yemen. Slowly people turned to solar to light up their homes. Today, increasing number of people are taking inspiration from each other and installing solar systems in their homes. Su-Kam feels proud to help such a large number of citizens of Yemen country and to successfully establish a flourishing solar industry in Yemen.
Here is a story about a man who opted for solar to light up his own home!
HOW DID THIS YEMEN COMPANY TURN TO SOLAR?
Mr. Majed (From Abdullah Alezzi Trading Stores – Su-Kam’s authorised distributor in Yemen) recently decided to install a solar system in his own home located in IBB city, Yemen.
Mr. Majed became Su-Kam’s authorised distributer in Yemen about a year back. They manage and supply Su-Kam’s solar products all over Yemen. The Abdullah Alezzi Trading stores have solar customers all over Yemen. He says, ‘We have been importing home appliances and electronics for the last 10 years from Egypt and China. It has been an honour to associate with Su-Kam seeing the large demand for solar in Yemen. Over the last one year, number of people in Yemen have been able to light up their homes with solar power and we must thank Su-Kam for its immense contribution to green energy. Just new orders every day. Solar is the future here in Yemen.’
HOW SOLAR MADE ALL THE DIFFERENCE
The area where Majed stays receives no electricity at all. The city is in complete blackout. Due to this situation he and his family resorted to using a diesel generator. They bought a 5KG generator and spent approximately 100USD on its maintenance and utility. Solar power is their only saving grace and they are making good use of it. During summers, after the solar installation they have zero expenditure on the generator and during rainy seasons they spend around 40USD. Their expenditures have reduced drastically.
After Mr. Majed got in touch with Su-Kam he got inspired to install a solar system in his own home and experience the difference first hand. With approximately 13 hours of day light in Yemen installing a solar system in this area will bring good results.
Here are the details of the system installed:
- Su-Kam’s Colossal Inverter– 5KVA/96V
- Su-Kam’s solar panels– 250W/24V (8 in number)
- Su-Kam’s Tubular Batteries – 200AH/12V (4 in number)
- Su-Kam’s solar charge controller PWM- 45Amps
LOAD RUNNING AND UNITS GENERATED
This system is able to generate approximately 10 to 15 units of electricity every day. The solar panels will generate DC power that will be sent to the solar charge controller which will charge the batteries with this DC power. The power stored in these batteries will then be converter from DC to AC by the colossal inverter. The inverter will then run all of the load through this AC power. The panels generate 8amps per hour with a sunshine of approximately 8/9 hours.
Running full electrical load of the house that includes approximately Refrigerator (220W for 5 hours), Deep Freezer (200W for 3 Hours), Geyser of 2000 W, TV (90W for 4 hours), Light bulbs (180W for 5 hours) this solar system installation was a huge success.
We wish Mr. Majed and his family many congratulations for his new home and wish him best of luck for his future with solar and a happy association with Su-Kam.
