WHAT IS DEEP DISCHARGE?
Has your battery got so discharged that it gets impossible to charge it again? Even after giving it sufficient power supply for long hours the battery holds no charge and is not able to give any back up. Yes this condition is called deep discharge.
But at what voltage does the battery go into deep discharge mode?
Well for a basic 12V tubular battery, when the battery voltage drops to 10V or below, the battery loses it ‘capacity’ to hold charge. At this stage a normal inverter cannot recharge the battery again. For ‘reviving’ a deep discharged battery it has to be sent to the service station. Which will cost you precious time and money.
WHAT MOST INVERTER MANUFACTURES HAVE DONE TO PREVENT DEEP DISCHARGE?
To prevent a deep discharge or an over charge situation, inverter manufacturers have added a protection feature in their inverters. They decided two cut off levels for a basic 12v tubular battery. Lower cut off voltage is usually at 10.5V and the higher cut off voltage is set at 14.4V.

HOW EFFECTIVE IS THIS PROTECTION FEATURE?
Did you know that if you discharge your batteries to 10.5V every single time, your batteries won’t last long? It’s true. Discharging your battery fully can significantly reduce its life.
And that’s not all.
Your batteries will start taking longer time to charge and consumes more power every time you recharge your batteries. Like I said it costs you precious time and money!
