How To Prevent Battery From Deep Discharge

Has it ever happened to you that no matter what you do your battery is not getting charged? Did you know why and how that happened? And if so how can we fix it? Batteries can be quite expensive and if maintained well it can last up to 3 to 5 years! Here’s some good news. Maintaining the life of a battery is not very difficult. If you are facing such a problem with your battery, we have the perfect solution. Read more to find out! Or you can learn this by watching a short interesting animated video that we have created to help you.

WHAT IS DEEP DISCHARGE?

Has your battery got so discharged that it gets impossible to charge it again? Even after giving it sufficient power supply for long hours the battery holds no charge and is not able to give any back up. Yes this condition is called deep discharge.

But at what voltage does the battery go into deep discharge mode?

Well for a basic 12V tubular battery, when the battery voltage drops to 10V or below, the battery loses it ‘capacity’ to hold charge. At this stage a normal inverter cannot recharge the battery again. For ‘reviving’ a deep discharged battery it has to be sent to the service station. Which will cost you precious time and money.

Normal Inverters often fail in deep discharge conditions. Here, Falcon Plus stands out by still able to perform well.

WHAT MOST INVERTER MANUFACTURES HAVE DONE TO PREVENT DEEP DISCHARGE?

To prevent a deep discharge or an over charge situation, inverter manufacturers have added a protection feature in their inverters. They decided two cut off levels for a basic 12v tubular battery. Lower cut off voltage is usually at 10.5V and the higher cut off voltage is set at 14.4V.

In this blog we will concentrate on the lower cut off level to understand how we can effectively prevent a deep discharge situation to maximize the life of our battery and also greatly reduce our electricity bills!

This inverter is the latest innovation by Su-Kam. it comes with complete protection in deep discharge conditions.

HOW EFFECTIVE IS THIS PROTECTION FEATURE?

Did you know that if you discharge your batteries to 10.5V every single time, your batteries won’t last long? It’s true. Discharging your battery fully can significantly reduce its life.

And that’s not all.

Your batteries will start taking longer time to charge and consumes more power every time you recharge your batteries. Like I said it costs you precious time and money!

This intelligent inverter comes with dip switches that can be set manually to prevent the inverter in deep discharge situation.

WHAT SU-KAM HAS DONE FOR A BETTER BATTERY LIFE?

Su-kam realized this pressing problem and found the perfect solution for maximizing your battery life. Su-kam introduced the ‘Low Voltage Disconnect Technology’ in their inverters for the first time across the globe. This is not all.

Su-kam gave the choice to you.

Now it’s up to you to decide the lower cut off voltage of your battery. In Su-kam inverters like Falcon+ there is a dip switch with which you can set your battery cut off voltage at either 10.5V or at 11V. After reaching this level your battery will not give further back up. We recommend that you set this voltage at 11V.

Here’s why.

WHAT WE RECOMMEND AND HOW IT CAN INCREASE YOUR BATTERY LIFE BY 3 MONTHS

Setting your battery cut off voltage at 11V can be quite beneficial for your battery. With this setting it’s logical that your battery will get charged faster and it will consume less power every time you recharge it. By choosing 11V you are preventing your battery from getting fully discharged every time and your battery will remain fit and healthy!

The LVD Technology introduced in Su-kam’s new products has been revolutionary since it was found to increase battery life by almost 3 months! But of course we do not deny that you will get slightly less back up.

But here’s the catch.

Setting the cut off voltage at 11V does not mean that your battery does not have any more reserve left. If you’re back up consumption is more, you can always change your mind!

And switch to 10.5V setting and use the rest of the reserve stored safely for you in your battery. Like we said it’s up to you.

This inverter now comes with safety against deep discharge.
