We have always maintained that all schools in India must go solar. If a school is located in a city that doesn’t suffer from long powercuts, then grid-tie solar makes perfect sense. Why an On-Grid System Over an Off-Grid Solar System?

St. Anselm Pink City school is located in Jaipur. This school has 50 fans and 50 tubelights running in all classrooms. They ran their load on grid power and incurred heavy electricity bill per month. The school management then decided they should turn to solar power. But they wanted to know the perfect solar system for their school that would greatly help in reducing electricity bills.


The management then approached Mr Vineet, Su-Kam’s authorized distributor from Ram Kripa enterprises to understand all about solar power and its benefits. After a detailed discussion, Vineet advised them to install Su-Kam’s grid tied inverter in their school. Mr Vineet then contacted Su-Kam’s branch manager, Mr ML Sharma to carry out this project. Grid-tie inverter would not only reduce their monthly electricity bill by running their load on solar but would also help him earn money by selling the excess solar power produced by solar panels back to the grid.

Grid-tie solar inverter, also known as on-grid solar inverter, works in connection with the main grid. It offers the advantage of running load directly through solar and selling excess solar power back to electricity company by feeding the grid.


Jaipur city is located in Rajasthan state of India and receives approximately 10 hours 30 minutes of day light every day in this month of December. Investing in solar power in this area would definitely bring perfect results.

Why Grid-Tie Inverter?

Grid-tie inverters are an on-grid rooftop solar solution that can run the load completely on solar and also sell excess solar power back to the company by feeding the power to the grid. Units Generated and Load Running

The system is expected to generate approximately 100 units of electricity on a daily basis, depending on weather conditions. The installation was a success. The system is now running on solar and provides electricity in this school at times.


How Does Net Metering Work?

The concept of selling back solar energy to the electricity board is called ‘Net metering’. Let us understand this with an example.

In this case, the solar panels will generate approximately 100 units of electricity per month. So, let’s take for example that this school uses 50 units out of 100 units from solar power to run their load and exports the rest of 50 units to the electricity board. It also imports 100 units from the electricity board to run his load.

So instead of paying for 100 units the school will now just pay for 50 units imported from the electricity board. This way their cost reduces to 50%.

This is the net metering concept.


The net metering and subsidy given by the government makes solar power a very cost effective and affordable solution for one and all.

Mr Vineet says, ‘We have installed a 20KVA Grid tie inverter in this school that is running 50 fans and 50 tubelights in the school. The management is very satisfied with the installation.’
