This Family Installed Grid-Tie Solar System and Now Their Electricity Bill is down by 70%

This story has been narrated by Su-Kam’s authorized distributor Mr. Harwinder who helped this man reduce his bills of INR 7000 by 80%. Here is the full story!

Why A Grid-Tie System?

Mr. Harwinder Singh is located in Punjab. His office named ‘Solarium solar power system’ is located in Punjab. They have been selling, distributing and spreading the knowledge of solar with Su-Kam for a while now. Harwinder has an interesting solar Facebook page where he shares his everyday solar installation experiences with you for everyone to see the practical aspects of buying a solar system.

Mr. Pradeep, a happy Su-Kam customer, one-day stumbled upon this website. After seeing a number of examples of how people have installed grid-tie inverters and reduced their monthly electricity bills, he decided to call up Mr. Harwinder!

The area where his home is located is blessed with continuous electricity supply. He paid a monthly electricity bill of INR 7000 to run his home load.

After a candid conversation on call, Harwinder advised Pradeep that to reduce his electricity bills to almost zero, he should go in for an on-grid system. Since power is available at almost all times, it is advisable to install a grid-tie system here.

How Is A Grid-Tie Inverter Better Than A Regular Inverter?

Grid-tie inverters are amazingly designed machines that basically enable you to feed back the excess solar energy generated to the grid and earn money. Excess solar energy means the energy you don’t use to run your load.

Grid-tie inverters are always connected to the grid. One cannot install grid-tie inverters in areas that do not receive any mains supply. As compared to an off-grid system, a grid-tie system also provides freedom from battery maintenance making essentially a one-time investment and a lifetime of advantage.

Mr. Harwinder installed the following in Pradeep’s home:

Technical Specifications:

  1. Su-Kam’s solar panels – 5KW
  2. Su-Kam’s Grid-Tie Inverter – 5KVA

Units Generated Per Day

In this two-floored home, the grid-tie inverter generated about 31.5 units of solar power on a Sunday as reported by Mr. Pradeep. We can take an average of 25 units generated from the solar system depending on weather conditions.

How Does Net Metering Work?

The concept of selling back solar energy to the electricity board is called ‘Net metering’. Let us understand this with an example.

In this case, the solar panels will generate approximately 600 units of electricity per month. So let’s take, for example, this home uses 500 units out of 600 units from solar power to run the load and exports the rest of 100 units to the electricity board. He also imports 50 units from the electricity board to run his load.

So now Pradeep pays zero electricity bill as he has exported 100 units to the grid and used 50 units. So the extra 50 units gets added to his account for the next month.

This is the net metering concept.

The net metering and subsidy given by the government make solar power a very cost effective and affordable solution for one and all.

We wish Ravil and his family all the best with his future with Su-Kam and solar power and hope that more people take inspiration from such live examples. Solar is not the future solar is our present.
