This Farmhouse in Village Has No Grid Connectivity But Gets 24×7 Power From 25 Solar Lights

Here is an interesting story about a farmhouse that has lived in the dark for months because of no electricity lines in that area. The owners then opted for Su-Kam solar street lights and finally saw light in their farmhouse. Here is what happened:

Why A ‘Solar’ Street Light?

Solar power has grown over the people of India for all the right reasons. This is one source of power that can light up the most remote areas of India or the world, if I may add. Using solar power gives one the freedom to be independent from the grid supply bringing light into rural far-flunged villages that have never seen the light of day. And this is why solar is the future.

Life In This Farmhouse Before Solar Street Lights

Mr. Nirmal owns a farmhouse on Sohna road, Gurgaon. This farmhouse had no street lights because of no electrical power lines located in that area. It became a necessity to install a stand-alone independent solar street light in that area since the area would be covered in darkness as soon as the sun set. Gurgaon receives approximately 12 hours and 43 minutes of day light every single day. Installing solar street lights in this area would bring the right results.

And Mr. Nirmal contacted our authorized distributor, Mr. Ashok located in Gurgaon from Galaxy engineering system for installing 25 solar street lights in specific spots of that farmhouse.

Here are the details of the solar street lights:

Technical Specifications

  1. Su-Kam’s Solar street light ‘SUNWAY’ – 30W (25 in numbers)
  2. Solar panels in built in the street light – 200W/12V
  3. External lead acid batteries – 12V
  4. Light output in Lumens – 5800
  5. Solar charge controller – 20A/12V

Life After Solar Street Lights In The Farm House

After the installation, we had a candid conversation with Ashok.

He says, ‘We have installed 25 street lights across the farmhouse. This area recieves no power supply and this area was covered in darkness during the night time. These street lights are now a boon to this farmhouse.’

Let us understand how a solar street light works:

How A Solar Street Light Works?

Su-Kam’s solar outdoor streetlight ‘SUNWAY’ comes in three models. LI1(4W), LI2(9W) and LI3(15W) with lithium ion batteries and 30W/60W/80W with lead acid batteries. The LI3 model gives 31lux from 4 meters and provides excellent lighting for outdoor solutions like farms, small streets etc. These street lights have been designed to provide 30 to 50% more brightness as compared to other solar street light and with in built light weight and maintenance free lithium ion batteries. This stand-alone street light consists of a pole, battery bank, solar panel and LED or CFL lights. During the day the solar panels convert the sunlight into electricity and stores it in batteries and during the night the street lights provides light by taking energy from the power stored in batteries.

The number of hours the street light stays on depends on your geographical area. For this particular street light, Mr. Ashok says, ‘We expect it should be able to provide 12 hours of continuous back up with approximately 8 hours of sunlight charging. The street light will work from 7PM in the evening to 7AM in the morning. The area receives enough sunlight so it should work just perfectly’.

We wish Mr. Nirmal best of luck for his future with Su-Kam and solar.
