Tired of 8 Hours of Powercut Daily, This Panchayat in Karnataka Goes Solar!

How Did Solar Help This Organization?

A panchayat office in Sullia district of Karnataka recently decided to go solar. This area experiences power cuts about 6 to 8 hours per day so to run their load comfortably they bought a diesel generator along with electricity consumed from mains. Being a part of the government agency this panchayat office wanted to set an example by installing a solar plant.

They then decided to call Mr. Niranjan, Su-Kam’s authorized distributor in Mangalore and asked him to install a solar system in the panchayat office.

Niranjan and his team of qualified engineers then visited the panchayat’s office and inspected the load and decided to install an off-grid solar powered system that would run their load on solar power and also provide sufficient backup.

Indian state of Karnataka receives ample amount of sunlight. With an average of 11 hours and 50 mins of daylight, a solar installation in this month of March would be perfect for this area.

The following system was installed in the Panchayat office:

Technical Specifications:

  1. Su-Kam Solar PCU – 2KW
  2. Su-Kam Batteries 150AH – 4 in number
  3. Solar Panels – 250W – 8 in Number

Load Running and Units Generated

This solar system generates 10 units of electricity in a day approximately according to weather conditions. The system runs the full load of the panchayat office that includes 1 LED TV (32inch), 5 personal computers, 4 LED lights and 2 fans.

This installation was a success. There will be electricity available in this office at all times after this solar installation.

Mr. Niranjan says, ‘It was a pleasure to help the Indian government to install a solar plant in their office here in Karnataka. They wanted to run the light load of the office. And this system will be perfect to run the load.’
