The First Steps Towards a Green Planet with Solar

It is inspirational to see such large number of established educational institutions taking such keen interest in taking up solar power as their primary source of electricity. Established in 2000, College of engineering Perumon is located in Kollam, Kerala and is headed by Dr. Z A Zoya, Principal of the college.

It was a joint management decision where in it was decided that solar power should be given a chance so that the massive amount of electricity bills could be reduced. Previously the college utilized grid supply to run their load that incurred heavy monthly charges. The college is located in Kollam a city in Kerala that receives approximately 12 hours and 20 minutes of day light every day. So investing in solar power in this area was perfect.

Su-Kam feels proud to receive the tender for this installation. The responsibility of this installation was given to our loyal and experienced authorized distributor Mr. Moorthy from Capital solar systems.

Going Solar with Su-Kam

Mr. Moorthy has carried out a number of solar installations all over Kerala and after a detailed site inspection of the college classrooms he suggested for the following systems to be installed-

Technical Specifications

  1. Su-Kam’s Solar Power Conditioning Unit– 3KVA/48V
  2. Su-Kam’s Solar Batteries– 150AH (4 in number)
  3. Su-Kam’s Solar Panels– 2KW (250W/24V- 8 in number)

Load Running and Units Generated

The system is expected to generate approximately 15 units of electricity every day according to the weather conditions and will be able to run the load of 3 classrooms of the college. The system will run the following applications:

  1. Tube lights- 12 in number
  2. Fans- 12 in number
  3. Projectors- 3 in number

Mr. Moorthy says ‘The management of the college took a good decision to install a solar system in their college. Founded in 2000, the college holds a student’s strength 1400 and decided to explore solar by installing a solar system in 3 classrooms in the beginning. The system is working absolutely fine now and the management is considering to install a higher capacity solar system’.
